Setting Up Spexo AI with OpenAI in WordPress

Before you start using Spexo’s AI-powered tools, there are a few important steps you must complete.
This guide walks you through the setup process so you can start generating text, images, translations, and alt text effortlessly.

Prerequisites #

To use  Spexo Addons AI Features, you must have the following:

• An active OpenAI Account
• At least $5 balance in your OpenAI billing account
• A valid OpenAI API Key

💡 Important: OpenAI does not allow free-tier accounts to use API features. You must add at least $5 credit before Spexo AI tools will work.

Step 1: Create an OpenAI Account #

If you don’t already have an OpenAI account:

1. Visit platform.openai.com
2. Sign up or log in
3. Add billing details
4. Top up your account balance by at least $5

This step is mandatory for API access.

Step 2: Generate Your API Key #

Once you’re logged into your OpenAI account:

1. Go to https://platform.openai.com/api-keys
2. Click Create new secret key
3. Copy your API key

Your key is used by Spexo to connect with OpenAI’s models.

Step 3: Add API Key in Spexo Settings #

Now connect OpenAI to your WordPress site:

1. Go to your WordPress Dashboard
2. Navigate to Spexo Addons → Settings → AI Settings → Configuration
3. Paste your API key into the OpenAI API Key field
4. Click Save Settings

Spexo will instantly connect to OpenAI and fetch available models.

Step 4: Model List Fetching #

After saving:

• Spexo automatically fetches text models (GPT series)
• Spexo fetches image models (DALL-E series)
• The list is cached to improve performance

If the list is empty or outdated, simply click:

List Refresh

This refreshes your model list from OpenAI.

Account Balance Requirements #

Spexo AI features rely on OpenAI’s API. For the API to function:

• Your OpenAI account must have at least $5 prepaid balance
• Features will not work under free credit or expired accounts
• Billing errors may cause model fetching to fail

Free vs Pro Setup Differences #

Confirming Your Setup Works #

Once setup is complete, you should be able to:

• See AI buttons inside Elementor (Text & Image)
• Use AI Translate from the Elementor toolbar
• Generate alt text in the Media Library
• View Usage & Limits under Spexo Addons → Settings → AI Settings → Usage & Limits

If these features are visible and usable, your integration is successful.

Troubleshooting Setup Issues #

If the API key or balance is incorrect, you may see issues like:

• Model list not loading
• AI buttons not appearing
• Error: API key invalid or missing
• Error: Daily token limit reached

To fix:

• Check API key and re-save
• Verify you have $5+ OpenAI balance
• Try refreshing models list
• Check your daily token limit settings
